Christopher is a nine-year-old from St. Mary's, Kansas, who lives with his adopted parents and sister. Although he suffers from a life-threatening medical condition, he is a happy and content child who enjoys playing with trucks, tractors, and anything red!
Christopher's favorite thing to do is spend time in the water because it gives him the freedom to move on his own. Not only does he enjoy this additional independence and mobility, it also helps him gain muscle strength. For these reasons, Christopher wished for an above-ground swimming pool in his backyard.
Since being installed, Christopher has swam in the pool every day. Although he is legally blind, he knows exactly where the pool is, and he waits patiently by the door until someone takes him out to swim. He uses a special flotation device that supports his neck and allows him to keep his head above water. Consistent access to water in a safe environment has allowed feelings of freedom and joy to become an everyday experience for Christopher, contributing to his overall emotional and physical health. “Christopher absolutely loves his pool,” his mom said. “He doesn’t stop smiling the entire time he is in the pool. He is already getting braver with his movements, and he is a master splasher!”
Make-A-Wish Kansas would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jewelers For Children for their financial support of this wish. Jewelers For Children is a nonprofit organization that strives to unite the generous charitable giving efforts of the jewelry industry to support as many children in need as possible.
