Since being diagnosed with a brain tumor, Kenna has had to face things that most 15-year-olds do not: treatment options, doctors’ appointments, and time away from school and friends.
Despite the interruption of her normal life, one thing never changed: her love of golf. “Golf has been a constant in Kenna’s life,” said her mom. Determined to not let sickness defer her from her dream of becoming a professional golfer, Kenna fearlessly battled through her pain, nausea and fatigue and spent every minute out of the hospital on the golf course perfecting her game.
While still in treatment, Kenna continued to play for her high school golf team, and she attended after-school practices whenever she could. “Even through some of her toughest times, she gave 100% to her game,” said Kenna’s high school golf coach. Her efforts paid off: Kenna was part of the 2015 State Championship team in Kansas.
When given the opportunity for a wish, Kenna asked to play golf at Pebble Beach. To prepare for her trip, she practiced with a professional golfer at a course in Wichita, Kansas, and she was the VIP at a local golf tournament. She was also surprised with a GoPro camera, which she used to document her experience at Pebble Beach.
Kenna’s week at Pebble Beach was everything she had hoped for. She spent the week golfing on the world-famous course, and she enjoyed exploring other California landmarks with her family. Now that she’s home, she is looking forward to celebrating remission and reclaiming their championship title during the upcoming golf season.
