Federico wishes to go to the beach and feel the sand

“ A wish brings visible signs of joy ”

Federico was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 4 months old and has spent more time in hospitals than out of them. During the summer of 2012, he had brain surgery that left him blind and largely immobile. He had always loved the beach and water, so a wish to go to the beach and feel the sand again was a welcome opportunity.

On his wish trip, Federico spent 5 days in San Diego with his three sisters and parents. In addition to feeling the ocean and building sandcastles with "The Sandcastle Man," he got to visit the San Diego Zoo and swim with baby otters at Nurtured by Nature, a nonprofit that fosters hope and well-being to children with life threatening illness through physical interactions with nature.

The smile on his face and squeals of delight when he feels the sand for the first time after losing his eyesight are tangible examples of why wishes matter, and how they can fill a child with hope, strength and joy.
