“What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store? What if Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!” – How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Few people embody the Christmas spirit—a spirit of love, giving, and joy—more than Phoenix. This seven-year-old is filled with the magic of Christmas all year long. In fact, his role model is Santa Claus—the most generous man in the world! For as long as he can remember, Phoenix has been dressing up as Santa Claus. He even has Santa-themed birthday parties…in April. Phoenix will tell you that one of his favorite memories is the time Mr. and Mrs. Claus made a special trip from the North Pole to visit him while he was in the hospital. Although it was summertime—and they were very hot in their attire—they brought the gift of joy to Phoenix when he needed it most.
When Phoenix was given the opportunity for a wish, he wanted it to involve three things: Santa Claus, Christmas, and Disney World. Our team worked diligently to make sure this Christmas would be one Phoenix would never forget.
On his Wish Day, Phoenix met with Santa and his elves at Give Kids the World (a resort located near Central Florida’s most beloved attractions where children with life-threatening medical illnesses and their families are treated to weeklong, cost-free fantasy vacations.) He was then given the unique opportunity to dress up in his own Santa outfit and hand out Christmas presents to each little boy and girl staying at the village! Phoenix’s wish gave him the opportunity to share his Christmas spirit with other children with life-threatening medical conditions. That made him the happiest boy at the happiest place on Earth.
Before leaving Give Kids the World, each child is asked one simple question at check-out: “What was your favorite part?” We have been told by the staff at Give Kids the World that the overwhelming response to this question during Christmas week was “The little Santa Claus!”
