Development and Events Internship

The internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector.

Job Description:

The Development and Events Intern will assist the development department of Make-A-Wish Kansas. The intern will assist the Director of Development and the Events Manager with administration, donor stewardship, and event planning and coordination. 

Hours/Schedule:

Students will work 20 hours per week and are responsible for their own transportation and housing expenses. Flexible schedule.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist Events Manager with internal and external events.
  • Assist with the Kids for Wish Kids program, including meeting with schools and attending school events with the Events Manager.
  • Discovery, cultivation and stewardship of event participants and supporters.
  • Post event follow-up and acknowledgement.
  • Donor stewardship.
  • Provide administrative support for development department.
  • Follow a defined set of Standard Operating Procedures for the coordination of reporting of events.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Required Experience:

  • Requires excellent project management, customer service, communication and public presentation skills.
  • Passion for the Make-A-Wish mission.
  • Professional dress and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work quickly and independently.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
  • Minimum of 20-hour work week preferred, some weekend events required.

Graphic Design Internship

The internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience.

Primary Tasks:

  • Work collaboratively with Development and Communications teams
  • Create logo and marketing materials for events
  • Create graphics for Season of Wishes year-end giving campaign
  • Create/edit graphics for social media
  • Website imagery updates/edits

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, or other design software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Digitally savvy
  • Self-starter with initiative and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in MS Suite and internet research tools
  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information

Location: Understanding that graphic design can be done remotely, there are no location restrictions on applicants. Access to a computer and relevant design software is required for remote applicants.

Communications Intership

The internship program is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector.

Primary Tasks:

  • Work collaboratively with Development and Volunteer teams
  • Monitoring and managing various social media accounts for Make-A-Wish Kansas
  • Capturing video and photo content for online posting
  • Creating online posts including visual content
  • Responding to online social media posts 
  • Tracking and analyzing data from campaigns
  • Creating and sending press releases and email newsletters
  • Assisting in strategic planning

Qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Experience using various types of social media including: - Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat and LinkedIn 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Some experience producing photo and video content: - Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and minimal design skills 
  • Must be able to work on a computer for multiple hours 
  • Ability to attend events and provide coverage for social media for 1-3 hours

Volunteer Services Internship

The Volunteer Services Internship is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students to learn about cultivating and managing volunteers with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience.

Primary Tasks:

  • Work closely with the Volunteer Services Manager on volunteer assignments and Wish communication
  • Assist in maintaining volunteer database and file system
  • Work collaboratively with Volunteer Services Manger to promote volunteer opportunities
  • Assist with Referral and Wish Process
  • Update and assemble materials for volunteer trainings
Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in filing and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively
  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to engage volunteers and promote the Make-A-Wish Kansas mission

Wish Program Internship

The Wish Program Internship is designed for current undergraduate or graduate students to learn about cultivating and managing volunteers with the goal of being a leader in the non-profit sector. The purpose of the internship program is to help students further cultivate their skills through a real-life work experience.

Primary Tasks:

  • Assist in maintaining Wish Kid database and file system
  • Create and assemble Wish Kid Packets
  • Assist with Referral and Wish Process
  • Assist with Wish Projects
  • Accompany Director of Mission Delivery and Volunteers on Airport Send Off parties
  • Take Wish Referrals and assist volunteers with Wish Assignments

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Proficiency in filing and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively
  • Ability to maintain discretion when dealing with confidential information
  • Ability to engage volunteers and Wish Families and promote the Make-A-Wish Kansas mission
